Support for the demining, development and social protection of vulnerable people
Funded by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa and implemented by Humanity & Inclusion, the project targets vulnerable populations in the north and west of Chad (Borkou, Ennedi-Est, Ennedi-Ouest and Tibesti). It aims to pursue demining efforts in targeted areas and to provides support for development and social protection of vulnerable people. The project is implemented through four components: 1) treating mine-affected areas and explosive remnants of war and making the secured land available to communities in Tibesti and in the Lake Chad area; 2) updating the national Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA); 3) facilitating equitable access for people in need of prosthetics and rehabilitation services; and 4) supporting economic development in Borkou and Ennedi, by securing access to land and transport infrastructure.
Global objective
- Contribute to regional stability and better migration management by addressing the root causes of instability, forced population displacement and irregular migration and by increasing economic opportunities, equality of opportunity, security and development
Specific objectives
- Provide support for the demining, development and social protection of vulnerable people in northern and western Chad
Expected results
- Mine-affected areas and explosive remnants of war are treated; secured land is made available to communities in Tibesti and in the Lake Chad area;
- Updated Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) used by the National Demining Center
- Equitable access of the most vulnerable to basic services, including prosthetics and rehabilitation services
- Secured access to land and transport infrastructure to boost economic development in Borkou and Ennedi
