Youth and Stabilisation Programme (PROJES)

Youth and Stabilisation Programme (PROJES)

Funded by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa and implemented by the German Agency for International Development Co-operation (GIZ), the Youth and Stabilisation Programme (PROJES) aims to contribute to the stabilisation and socio-economic recovery of the Central Mali regions. It aims at strengthening the supply and access of the populations to locally identified priority services, as well as at reviving the regional and local economy, by paying strong attention to training and professional integration of young people. By harnessing the local economic potential and through targeted investments, the programme offers credible alternatives to violence and fundamentalism. Initial activities included the rehabilitation of buildings such as schools and markets, as well as improving access to drinking water, to deliver better basic services to the population. This initial project phase also included the provision of equipment for health centres. Management training and technical training for young people were offered to initiate income-generating measures and ensure the integration of young people into the labour market. These included activities in the restaurant sector, in small businesses or in micro fish-farming projects. PROJES targets young people, girls and boys, as privileged beneficiaries.
