Regional conference to develop a sustainable management strategy of the fall armyworm

From 10/09/19 to 12/09/19 - Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Organised under the patronage of the President of Burkina Faso, this regional conference aims to strengthen the capacity of the Sahelian and West African countries to manage the fall armyworm in an efficient and sustainable manner. Following an exchange on current initiatives and practices in the different countries and a presentation of key research findings, participants will identify possible actions to harmonise current approaches and strategies. The aim is to develop an integrated regional action plan in the short- and medium term. The regional conference also aims to strengthen advocacy for greater resource mobilisation for action-oriented research in order to efficiently combat cross-border and emerging pests in the region. The conference responds to a key concern of the Network. During the 34th RPCA annual meeting in December 2018, the Network called upon “ECOWAS, UEMOA and CILSS to implement a coherent and co-ordinated regional response, in particular by i) intensifying investments in research on pesticides and pest control methods; ii) accelerating the implementation of monitoring mechanisms at different scales (local, national and regional).”
