The ECOWAS area facing the 2021 food and nutrition crisis

The PREGEC communiqué summarises the key messages of the meeting of the Regional System for the Prevention and Management of Food Crises (PREGEC), which was held on 17 and 18 June 2021 in Cotonou and by videoconference. The meeting provided an opportunity to monitor preparations for the new 2021-22 agro-pastoral campaign. Experts also analysed the food and nutrition situation in at-risk areas and examined national response plans. It reviewed the results of the seasonal climate and hydrological forecasts for the 2021-22 period. The PREGEC brought together some forty experts from the 17 member countries of the ECOWAS-UEMOA-CILSS area as well as international partners.
