Covid-19 and the food systems crisis: symptoms, causes and potential solutions
Published : April 2020
This communiqué, prepared by iPES Food, reflects on new, more resilient food systems. It presents four key recommendations: 1) Act immediately to protect the most vulnerable; 2) Create resilient agroecological food systems; 3) Re-balance economic power to strengthen public goods: a new pact between the state and society; and 4) Reform the governance of international food systems. “This crisis is an ideal opportunity to rethink the 2021 summit on food systems and refocus it on resilience and agroecology, based on a democratic debate within the UN Committee on World Food Security”, iPES Food concludes.
