Nigeria: worsening food and nutrition situation

Published : November 2020

An update of the CH analysis was prepared in June 2020 covering four states (Adamawa, Borno, Kano and Yobe). It analysed the impacts of the unfolding health crisis in the context of the extremely fragile environment of northeast Nigeria and the strategic importance of Kano State as a commercial hub in northwest Nigeria. According to the June update, some 8.65 million Nigerians were in a “Crisis” or worse situation (phases 3-5) in June‑August 2020. This means that 2.7 million additional people required urgent humanitarian assistance compared to the initial estimate of November 2019. One out of two food insecure Nigerians lives in northeast Nigeria.
