Funded by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa, the LRRD programme aims at strengthening resilience of vulnerable communities in Burkina Faso’s northern border areas. In the spirit of the Global Alliance for Resilience (AGIR) – Sahel and West Africa, the project aims to set up a multi-actor and multi-sector partnership around a long-term vision to involve all key stakeholders working towards strengthening resilience of vulnerable populations in the face of chronic food crises. Through the implementation of co-ordinated and complementary local action, the programme aims at strengthening resilience of communities, households and food insecure people in border areas, which are most affected by instability. It aims to restore the livelihoods of the most vulnerable households, to sustainably improve their food production and their access to food, to provide nutrition support for children under five and for pregnant and breastfeeding women, and to improve their access to basic social services, particularly to drinking water, sanitation and health care (including reproductive health and family planning). The programme is implemented by a large number of national and international NGOs.
