Jointly funded by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), this project targeted populations in several towns in the Diffa region of Niger. It aimed to strengthen the housing capacities of municipalities with a high population concentration and to improve the authorities’ capacity to better manage the displacement crisis. It created social housing for 4 000 households and contributed to strengthening the capacity of municipalities. It notably developed a pilot project to advance the biometric registration of the population throughout the Diffa region and create an operational database directly managed by the communities with the support of UNHCR. The project capitalised on previous projects undertaken jointly by the Nigerien authorities and UNHCR.
