Rural development and food security
Funded by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the “Rural Development and Food Security” project targets vulnerable households in the Sikasso and Ségou regions of Mali, in order to improve their food security and increase their income, by strengthening the sectors of rice, fonio and sesame. The project thus contributes to supporting the Malian government in its objective of reducing poverty, through inclusive and sustainable growth. The project covers three areas of action: 1) rural development and food security; 2) training and professional integration; and 3) decentralisation and good governance. The project works with local stakeholders and government departments to facilitate the implementation of development policies and strategies. The project supports some 90 producers’ organisations. Environmental concerns as a cross-cutting issue are addressed in all project components.
