Strengthening resilience of vulnerable urban and rural communities in Mauritania
Funded by the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for Africa, this programme targets vulnerable populations in the regions of Adrar, Assaba, Brakna, Hodh ech Chargui, Hodh el Gharbi, Gorgol, Guidimaka and Tagant in Mauritania. The project aims to build resilience of communities by strengthening rural-urban links, addressing food and nutrition insecurity and creating economic opportunities and socio-professional integration of the most vulnerable populations. In urban areas, the project will target the peri-urban areas of Nouakchott as well as major secondary cities, where a third of the country’s population is concentrated with significant risks of radicalisation and emigration. In rural areas, the action will benefit wilayas with the highest rates of food and nutrition insecurity in the country, causing significant economic migration to urban centres. A special focus is placed on young people and women.
