The PREGEC communiqué summarises the main key messages of the meeting of the Regional System for the Prevention and Management of Food Crises (PREGEC) meeting held on 23 and 24 June 2022 in Praia, Cabo Verde and by videoconference. The meeting gqve the opportunity to monitor the preparation of the new 2022-23 agropastoral season, analysed the food and nutrition situation in at-risk areas and discussed national response plans. PREGEC experts also reviewed the results of seasonal climate and hydrological forecasts for the period 2022-23. They also note “a generalised increase in food prices aggravating a complex food and nutrition crisis, despite good prospects for the 2022/2023 season, which is already facing a fertiliser crisis”.
