Le Cuziat: using mVAM to conduct regular surveys on the food and nutrition situation

Alexandre Le Cuziat, Senior Regional Emergency Advisor Head, Emergency Preparedness and Response Unit, WFP

“We use Mobile Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (mVAM), which already existed before Ebola and is now mainstreamed in our operations when we encounter difficulties in carrying out surveys and monitoring the situation of vulnerable populations. For the past year, we started applying this system in West Africa to obtain almost daily updates on food consumption. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have scaled up the system which now covers nearly all countries in the region, including specific questions on the possible effects of the pandemic on populations.”
